Mandala Monday #1

Everywhere on the internet, I keep seeing Mandalas.   They are so colorful and  a delight to see. They make me smile.  So I thought I would share a new Mandala each Monday to start the week of right and with pleasant thoughts and a smile....
This is Circle motif #60 from Beyond the Square Crochet Motifs, by Edie Eckman.

And here is how I make it using a B hook and ...
Nazli Gelin Garden 10 thread, Deep Pink, Rose, Pale Sage, and True Green.

Then what is this??!
You can fix this if you revert the picture and moving on...

Happy Friday! -WIP Bluebird

We have all seen the beautifully fun items Heidi Bears has created  like her hippo...

Recently she was a guest on the Yarn Thing Podcast, I really enjoyed hearing her story. After looking at all her patterns.  I  bought her Bluebird of Happiness. Heidi has a free duck modification to this pattern too.

I am making mine with thread and a size 7 hook to see how small it turns out.
It is a one of my works in progress.

Enjoy!

WIP -Bruges Bandanas

Last night hanging out with my Crochet & Knit Friends at Barnes & Noble, I was working on this....

the Scamp Bandana  by April Garwood.  It is from the latest issue of Interweave Crochet.  This is a quick and easy pattern as well as a nice introduction to Bruges Lace.

The yarn I used is Schoeller Stahl, Batika, which is no longer available.  A great substitute is Serenity Garden by Deborah Norville.  I finished my bandana and then made another right away with the leftover yarn  and it is the perfect size for Orla....

We are a cute pair in our matching bandanas!

Enjoy!

WIP Wednesday -Irish Crochet

On our trip to the beach back in June, I brought along this wonderful book...

It was much to windy to do any thread crochet at the beach, so I worked on these motifs in the car from the hotel to the beach and on our ride home.  I love how thoroughly Kathryn shows how to pad rings and cords.  She details how each motif looks with padding and without.  So while sitting at the pool I started making padded rings and then I tried this ....

With a very long tail, load a slip loop with a ch, as if to stitch into the loop..

Then holding the tip of a pencil next to the hook, using the tail thread, wrap 12 loops onto the pencil.     Not too tight, not to loose either.

Then slipping the loops off the pencil and pinching them together,  start working 12 sc into the ring. It looks pretty messy but just wait...

Again, be sure the sc are not to tight, not too loose, just right.
Voila!  12 sc into the ring.   Join to the 1st sc.

Then pull the tail thread until you have a nice padded circle.
If you pull too tight the thread will break.

Here is my favorite motif so far...
A very happy carnation!

Enjoy!
