Modern Irish Crochet

As you may remember I am slowly making my way through this book...

by Kathryn White, one of my resources for studying of Irish Crochet.

During Thanksgiving weekend, I made the sampler she includes in the book...
Pretty good,  but I still need to block it.

Recently, Myra Wood added a new Craftsy class that caught my eye, Modern Irish Freeform Crochet.
I added it to my classes and have been working up some motifs....
and ready to learn some more tips and tricks, plus hav something gorgeous to wear!

Enjoy!

Joining the club

Last week Tuesday, I joined the...
broken phone club, the elite group of accidental people.

I had my phone in my jacket pocket and thought I zipped it closed.  As I put on my jacket, I heard that distinct phone falling to the floor sound.

My first thought was well I have to get a new one.  Even though it still works,  I don't want to cut my finger on shards of glass.  First, I added some shipping tape to protect myself from shards.
Then I checked my phone contract which expires next February.  Back when we bought our discounted ($50 and $1) smart phones with a 2-year contract we added insurance.  For each phone we pay our inexpensive $8 monthly premiums.  So today, I started to make a claim, enter in all my info, and if I pay a $200 deductible, they will send me another iphone.  Do you think I am going to pay that deductible?
My common sense tells me absolutely no way!  Now I am wondering why pay insurance with deductible I can't afford.  I can live with my broken phone until February.  I just hope there are no dues for the broken phone club.

Enjoy!

Celebrating our Veterans

Thank you to all our Veteran's!
For everyone who has served and sacrificed through military service.

I am especially thankful to my Dad (Vietnam), my Grandpa G (WWII), and

On the run

Last week and this week have me on the run.  Going from one job to the other with a quick stop home to let...
Elvie outside.

Trying to fit in a quick post while eating breakfast, getting Orla ready for school and myself for work.  My time is limited for fun things like pattern writing and blog posts, but everyday I fit in time for Crochet.

Over the weekend, I put all the flowers I have designed on paper in a way...
so far I have 57 flowers and counting...

Enjoy!

Wednesday -Weaving in Ends

Can you tell that weaving in ends is not my favorite part of Crochet?
I finished this very colorful cardigan last month.  I am still working on weaving in ends.  Sometimes I do a count down 20 more ends to go, 10 more ends to go. Or think of it as once I start and finish it really will not take that much time at all...

My Hair Clip Story

It is so much fun to dress up girls hair.  My daughter has always enjoyed wearing hair clips and barrettes.  Unfortunately, sometimes her hair snags in the small grommet at the end of the clip, pulling her hair as she takes out the clip.
clip story5.JPGHair clips should not have to hurt.

After seeing some wool covered hair clips, I wondered, “Could I make a crochet cover?” So I set to work designing and creating a crochet cover for hair clips.  I have created a durable custom hair clip cover that is soft and gentle on hair.  The hair clips I create are either solid or multicolor cotton thread.  I enjoy making them this way to create a simple look or to enable crafty customers to add their own creative embellishments.  Some of these could include glueing or sewing on buttons, beads or miniature flowers, or adding a layer of glitter glue adding a bit of sparkle.

But then for non-crafty customers I create flower and embellishments.  These flowers or embellishments have a loop on the back to slip on and off creating a variety of looks.

To quote my daughter, “I love all the hair clips my mom has made for me and my friends.  I change flowers on my clips all the time, and they never pull at my hair.”

My Crochet hair clips are available in three different sizes encompassing all types of hair from thin to thick and any age level.  I only use cotton thread because of  its naturally soft feel.
I have just about any color imaginable and happy to take custom orders.  As a Crochet artisan my work is always evolving as think of new ideas to try.
