Left or Right Handed -Paisley Tutorial

When you are crocheting your hands work together in a delightful dance of creating stitches.  One hand holds the yarn and the tension.  The other hand holds the hook.  Whether you are right or left-handed each makes the same stitches, motifs, and designs.

Subtle differences separate left or right handed work such as the direction in which we work.  Right-handed work right to left in back and forth rows, and counter clockwise when working motifs.  Left-handed work from left to right in back and forth rows and clockwise for motifs.

Each of us, left or right handed is highly adaptable, if we wish to make something we find a way!

As you may know if you have seen my tutorial posts, I am left handed.  Subtle differences became apparent to me when I made this Paisley from, The Complete Photo Guide to Crochet, by Margaret Hubert...
At the top of the picture is the paisley in the book and the bottom paisley is the one I made following the pattern.  It is not the same even if I turn it around like this...

So trying to make a paisley the same as the in the book, I made this...
and with a big THANK YOU! to Margaret Hubert and Creative Publishing International for their permission to use the diagram,  I will show you how I did it...
Here are the characters and let's go,

Ch 16...

work a slst in the 2nd ch from hook, and next 2 chs...

Now looking at the diagram...
with permission from the publisher
continue following the diagram in the direction as the note, sc in next 3 chs, hdc in next 3 chs, dc in next 3 chs, tr in next 2 chs, 5 tr in next ch, working the opposite side of foundation ch, tr in next 2 chs, dc in next 4 chs, hdc in next 4 chs, sc in next 4 chs...
Row 1 complete, fasten off blue.

Working in back loops only, join aqua with a standing sc in the first dc of Row 1 sc in same st...
following the diagram 2 sc in next 11 sts, sc in each st across.
Fasten off aqua.
Join jade, with a standing sc in the first hdc of row1....
sc in next 4 sts, hdc in next 6 sts, (dc in next st 2 dc in next st) 4 times, hdc in next 12 sts, sc in next 8sts...
Fasten off jade.  Now one more row to go.

Row 4 starts with sc in the first slst from row1 sc in next 18 sts,
(2 sc in next st, sc in next st) 5 times,  sc in next 20 sts....

and this is the result...

So if anyone, left or right handed would follow the pattern in the book and then follow this tutorial you could make something like these....
Beautiful Paisley Earrings.

Enjoy!
