Happy Friday! Tips and Tricks

What do you do when there is a knot in your yarn?

It happens sometimes, you are working and all of a sudden there it is a knot.  No one really wants a knot in the middle of their project, right?  Sometimes if I want to keep my momentum going, I will  start a stitch then move past the knot to finish the stitch.  I make my ends on each side of the knot are long enough to weave in.
Sometimes I will rip out to start new yarn at the beginning of a row.  Now if you were working on variegated or ombre color yarn you would take into consideration the color changes and matching them up.
Then once I have my project complete I will cut the knot and weave in my ends with all my other ends.

Enjoy!

Throw Back Thursday - Vintage Doilies

My Mom gave me these vintage McCall's Needlework after my Grandma G died about this time last year.  She is the one who taught me to crochet.  I remember sitting in her family room, working on  double crochet with this bright orange yarn.  She knit and crochet and loved making afghans.
She loved doilies and collected them....

She had them on every table in their house.

I miss her and love her very much!

Laine Head Scarf

Is a new item I added to my shop last week....
It is titled Laine Head Scarf.  My cousin Laine needed a headwarmer so I designed this head scarf.  Using some yarn I bought in Vienna quite a long time ago it is a wool microfiber blend.  It has a turban style criss cross with a removable flower brooch.  I hope to have the pattern available soon.

Enjoy!

Doily Shawlette

Last night, I finally finished this Centerpiece in Crochet.....
it is blocking right now.  It is the biggest thread project I have ever completed measuring 40 inches in diameter.  A challenging and fun project, I learned so much.  I think is will be perfect as a shawlette.

Enjoy!

Happy Friday!

Well with the help of my frog....
I finally finished the Fuchsia insert of the doilly.  Now I have just started round 16...

Then I will have 5 more rounds to go.  The end is in sight. I am well past the 17 inch diameter.  In the pattern they were using size 30 thread and size 10 steel hook.   My thoughts are of what will it be.

Enjoy!

Oops and Challenges

Sometimes in Crochet we make mistakes,  it happens. Some we can easily hide like this one....
in this chain space there should only be 20 double crochet. If you count them there are 21.  This is something that is easy to hide.  Even for me to find it and take a picture.  But then some mistakes you can not hide and rip you must like this one.....

I completely skipped the 3 double treble crochet so rip I must.  This section for some reason is proving I have to pay close attention.  All last night I would work a round, start the next find a mistake and rip.  Then start again to find another mistake but it is still fun.
With more concentration I will continue this labor of love.

Enjoy!

Finally finished all my flower strips.....
now I only have 16 more rows to go...

Remember the soaking crochet?  here are all of those leaves and flowers...

I have been working through this book, last weekend I worked up the inserts like these...
 scrolls, fans and such....

I figured out how to make padded rings while working the motif.  Maybe an upcoming tutorial?

Thread Work

Over the weekend, there was an antique fair.  I went looking for anything crochet related and found these...
dainty little doilies.  So delightful to look at and study, the thread is so thin possibly size 80.

Then last night I made some more ponytails for my shop...

I have some Irish Crochet soaking....
ready for blocking more on that later this week.

Enjoy!

Happy Friday -Tips & Tricks

The Chainless Double Crochet (CSDC) is changing the way I crochet.  First learning this stitch from Tamara at Moogly while working up her Moroccan Tote Bag.  Now I incorporate this stitch every chance I can.  Remember the hat I showed you on Monday...

Using the chainless stitches can create a more seamless look like this....
my seam is right at the bottom of this valley.

Here is how the seam would have looked following the pattern...
Not at all invisible.

Now let me show you how to do a chainless dc decrease ....
Pull up a loop...

wrap hook around loop, yo,

pull loop through, (2 loops on hook)  yo, insert hook into next st, yo, pull loop through

yo, pull through 2, (3 loops on hook), yo,

pull through all 3 loops, continue to work your pattern and

join with sl st to the top of your dec.  Continue your pattern with or without turning.

Enjoy!

Throw back Thursday -Workbasket

Have you ever seen these...
Workbasket Magazines.  They have a bit of everything from knit and crochet to gardening, cooking and to other crafts.  I have about a dozen from 1970 to 1983.  They are full of handy information and kitschy history.  Some of the ads are a hoot too like this one...
Reduce inches in your body from letting someone feed you?

Happy Friday! -Sometimes

...you have to stop and Crochet a flower or two.  I have tried the Byzantine Beauty by Suzann Thompson once before without success.   Last night however, I tried it again....
and Voila! Success!
Suzann does have a tutorial for assembling this beauty here.

Then continuing onto crochet the Russian Spoke Flower...

and I am still working on the Russian Picot Daisy...
My picots are looking better with each one I finish!
