FreeForm Crochet Wisconsin

This year I participated in the International FreeForm Fiberart Guild challenge...
The challenge this year was Flora and Fauna -native to your region...

The idea of paying homage to my home state became my challenge...

as well as be in a group of so many other talented artists!

I am looking forward to next years challenge....

Enjoy!

Wednesday WIP

One of the projects I am working on is the Twilight Skies from Kristin Omdahl's latest book Continous Crochet....
It is a Pentagon Motif Yoke top.  I have just the right amount of Caron Naturally Country...
to complete the project.  I am busting my stash one project at a time.

I hope to finish it before the weekend...
about 35 more rows to go...

Enjoy!

Mod Tunic

Looking through Colorful Crochet Lace, I found a perfect project for this yarn...
another stash busting project...
It is a lacy modular design, made with 12 squares.   For the shoulder squares, I made the extra small size.  Then for the remaining squares, I made the small size squares.
Once you have all your squares made, you sew them together. To complete the project, you add edgings around the neck, sleeves and bottom.
My edging is created with 3 rounds of single crochet.  The 2nd and 3rd  rounds are worked in the back loops.  The last round is slip stitch, ch1 in each stitch around.

I love the idea that you can create a gorgeous top from fun and lacy squares.

Enjoy!

Navy Blue Lace

When people ask me how long did that take you to make?  My first thought was, hmm not quite sure,  then I would have to think, how long did it take.

Now I am in the habit of writing down start and finish dates...

For instance, I started the Sweet Clara top last Saturday, worked on it for 2-3 hours each night, and finished it Tuesday.  It is a beautiful pattern, well written with diagrams, and works up quickly.

I made my foundation chain, and worked the first row, then joined,  eliminating the risk of twisting the chain...
Then you join the foundation chain as a part of weaving in ends.

Since it is a top down design, you can try it on as you are working, and make any necessary modifications. To create a better fit for myself..

I added an extra round of shells before working the underarm.

Then, I continued working until my yarn was gone...
Voila!

Weekend WIP

Continuing with more stash busting, and working up my yarn cakes first.  I am starting with this yarn cake...
And the perfect pattern, Kristin Omdahl's,  Sweet Clara top. I was looking for a different pattern but then I found my print out of this pattern and the match was made.

For my birthday I bought myself a few project bags from Darn Yarn MN, so this WIP will dwell in this lovely bag...

Now off to crochet!

Enjoy!

Creative Lace and Destashing

This book, Colorful Crochet Lace, by Mary Jane Hall is simply fabulous!...
It is a wonderful collection of innovative crochet designs.
With so many inspiring designs,  I am enjoying this book immensely,
as it is giving me a opportunity to destash some of my various stashed yarns.

So far I have made about three  projects from the book.
The first project I made was the La Fleur Doily bag...
For this project I had just the right amount of DMC Senso, in a bright orange color.
For the outside lining,  I used a pink paisley in an effort to tone down the orange.

For the inside lining I used a plain purple for the inside...

It is a clever use for doillies. Some inspiration for future projects too.

Enjoy!

Works in progress...

This is my vintage leopard pouch....

I bought it years ago in at a vintage shop in Wausau, WI.  I love it, the thing about pouches and purses is that they tend to outlast all other wardrobe items. I bought a vintage red leather jacket with twist and lock closures, that I have long since discarded.

It is a great pouch for crochet projects and currently it has 2 projects...
I am working on Lisa Gentry's Snowflake Doily.  It is the January doily from the RedHeart yarns blog and you can find the pattern here.

In the mini turquoise pouch, I have a 2nd project....
I am finally getting to working up this bag lady bags crochet kit.  It took almost as much time to string the beads as it does to crochet.

Hope to post finished project pictures soon.  Enjoy!

Purple Lace Pull-over

Finally, I took some pictures today of the Modern Irish Freeform Crochet pullover I made through Myra Wood's Craftsy class.  I really enjoy how it turned out...
Front View...

a close-up of the front and...

the back.

As our weather should be shedding its winter coat and turning to spring, I will wear it soon.

Enjoy!
